Cream & Khaki!!!!!!

What colour combination do you love chicks…….

Well at the moment, we utterly adore cream and khaki together. Now khaki has never really been at the top of my favourite colour list, but, it’s such a flattering colour and looks good on everyone.

I am also pretty smitten with these trousers from Topshop, they are high-waisted, which I thought would be a no! no!. How wrong could I be, they look great, and are so comfy and I feel pretty flattering too.

So maybe next time you are out shopping, maybe try something khaki and let us know what you think!!

OESTROGEN

Hi Chicks,

We hope you’re all doing great!

knitwear and tees

Today’s topic is all about the hormone “Oestrogen”.  What is Oestrogen and more importantly, what does it do? Why is it so important to us especially during the menopause?

Are you like us, confused with this hormone…is it friend or foe?

Don’t worry because we’ve researched it and now we’re (hopefully) here to help break it down for you. We’ll try to shed some light on this powerhouse of a hormone as it’s pretty impressive and bonus it’s also there to help us look and feel fantastic. Woohoo Friend!!!!!

First let’s briefly discuss what hormones are and why they are so important to us?

Hormones are essentially the chemical messengers in the body that are created in the endocrine glands. These messages interact and control most of our bodily functions. From simple basic needs like hunger to keeping us alive, feeling good and sleeping well.

If our hormones are out of whack by not delivering the right messages we can experience mood swings, feel tearful and have a host of sleep problems. Basically our hormones are trying to tell us we are unbalanced somehow!! Eek!! If you can relate to any of the above then you’re not alone as we are feeling some of these symptoms too!! Moody… me?! Erm yes!!

In a later post we will explain how to not only spot the signs your body is out of whack, but also ways to help get us back on track, and feel more balanced. Phew!!

Let’s say hello to Oestrogen. As we mentioned this is a huge powerhouse hormone that defines us as women. Oestrogen is made in the ovaries, adrenal glands and in the fat cells and it regulates a women’s passage through menstruation, fertility and menopause.

It helps to develop our breasts, nourish our hair, distributes body fat evenly, supports the renewal and growth of our reproductive tissues and gives us gorgeous plump skin. We are full of vitality and all is well. Oestrogen is often referred as the “sex hormone”.

Oestrogen also helps regulate the menstrual cycle, controlling the growth of the uterine lining during the first part of the cycle. If a woman’s egg is not fertilized, oestrogen levels decrease sharply and menstruation begins. If the egg is fertilized, oestrogen works with progesterone, another hormone, to stop ovulation during pregnancy.

However, as we approach the menopause our Oestrogen levels fluctuate and they can become too high or too low which can lead to the following symptoms.

  • Irregular periods
  • Breast tenderness
  • Exacerbation of migraines
  • Mood swings
  • Hot flushes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Storing body fat around the middle
  • Heavy unpredictable bleeding
  • Irritable and anxious
  • Depressed and confused

Unfortunately, for a lot of us these symptoms can be so debilitating they can end up taking over our life. We presume this must be what the menopause is like and just suffer in silence leaving us feeling miserable, unhappy and understandably depressed.

We are here to tell you, no one should be feeling like this. Our hormones are out of balance and our body is desperately trying to let us know we’re out of whack!!

Please don’t worry there are things we can do to help balance our hormones, but in the first instance we would recommend you go speak to your doctor, especially if your symptoms are taking over your life, please do not suffer!

What we can all do is to start looking after ourselves through lifestyle changes, nutrition, exercise, supplements  and meditation to help keep our hormones in balance, help keep us happy, healthy and help to slow down the aging process, amazing!

Next week we will be talking about if you have too much or too little Oestrogen and what you can do to help to bring balance and harmony back to your life, feel better and look amazing… let’s do this together!!

Pssst………do you want to know a little secret?

Happy New Year chicks, we hope you had an amazing time over the festive season, but now it’s a new year, and a perfect time to get back on track with our healthy mind, body and spirit journey after all the overindulging we did, wasn’t it worth it though!! We all need a guilt free blowout once in a while, right chicks!!

Use for blog JanAre you ready – are you with us?!! But first we want to share with you a couple of our personal secrets….

We all want to look and feel as fantastic as we can, and as we’ve mentioned a million times it’s not about looking younger, we want to maintain and possibly enhance what we already have, right?

We eat well (most of the time); we exercise, (some of the time, Carol!) and look after our hair and skin, and think about the right make-up and what clothes to wear. Is this enough, or is there a little something else we can do????????

Have you ever tried or thought about trying dun dun dun, botox, fillers or any other non-surgical treatments?

Does it excite you, scare you or are you completely against it. We think it’s all about choice and here at Hot Chicks HQ we say a big yes and hold our hands up we’ve tried it and like it!!

For us it makes us feel so much better, and no one really knows especially if you go to someone with magic hands who can make you look refreshed and basically better than you did!!. So who is she??

Doctor Sylvie Bourree, Sylvie, is an internationally recognised top aesthetician Doctor, who earned her reputation through her amazing non – surgical work and skin rejuvenation.

We have known Sylvie for a number of years (probably more than we realised) and the reason we keep going back to see her again and again is because of her amazing work for creating that ‘natural look’ and ability to achieve a youthful glow.

She really studies your face, symmetries everything, leaving you looking fresh and beautiful without looking like you have been trapped in a wind tunnel; you know what we are saying!

Our advice is, find someone who  is recommended to you, don’t be afraid to ask questions, tell them what you want to achieve and then, like us you can walk out with your very own little secret, and wait for those compliments,  ooh you look well, and you can say, yes I DO!

If you would like to contact Dr Boureee her details are: http://www.docteur-sylvie-bouree.com or Sylvie also works at HB Health in London, http://www.hbhealth.com

Run, run, run

It’s finally happened! I’ve achieved something that I’ve always struggled with…I’ve started to enjoy exercise!hot pink trainers and bright blue leggings

Exercise and me have always been fair-weather friends – I give her my all for the briefest of moments and then give her up with barely a backwards glance.

That was until the luggage of my perimenopausal journey reared it’s ugly face – and by that, I mean the roll of something extra around my middle. I no likey!

I decided my only option was exercise. I started running about 6 weeks ago and to be very honest (please don’t hate me) I’m absolutely LOVE it! Blow me down with a feather, I really do enjoy it.

Tina and me may be very alike in some respects, but in relation to exercise, we’ve always been worlds apart. Tina loves it with a passion while until now I’ve never found a form of exercise that I really enjoy.

I only run twice a week – both days of the weekend as, with a full-time job, this is the only time I can really squeeze it in. I started off covering short distances and have gradually built up how long and how far I run for. It’s great – my body feels stronger, less wobbly, and my mummy tummy is decreasing, yay!

I didn’t realise that as we get older, our metabolism changes. It slows down, and starts to store more fat. Marilyn Glebville explains it beautifully:

“Your ovaries produce less oestrogen as you go through the menopause, so your body tries to compensate by making you fatter. Fat around the middle of your body manufactures oestrogen, which can offset the lower levels of oestrogen produced by the ovaries”.

So getting your wiggle on will really help to get rid of any extra fat you might find yourself with,

It’s important to find something you love, or at least like, that really gets your heart rate up.

Now, this is soooo me, but I just can’t run in any old thing, I want to look nice too. So I took myself off to H&M and got some really fabulous gym clothes that didn’t break the bank but look good and feel good too. My husband even bought me some hot-pink trainers, woo hoo!

I’ll keep you posted on how I get on. Fingers crossed that this newfound friendship will last forever!

SPARKLE FROM WITHIN

girl holding a sparklergirl holding a sparklerThis week’s blog is all about maintaining a healthy lifestyle long-term.

Here at HC-HQ, we firmly believe that what you put into your body shows on the outside, hence our term “sparkle from within”.

We just love the idea of everyone walking around sparkling “How?” we hear you ask. Never fear, we’re on hand with our top tips for helping you to maintain your inner and outer loveliness. Health is wealth, right chicks!

ANTIOXIDANTS

You’ve probably heard this word bandied about a lot in any discussions about healthy foods, but you may not know what antioxidants actually are. Well, they’re mainly found in vegetables and fruit – particularly the ones that are brightly coloured – and contain anti-ageing properties that fight ‘free radicals’ (the nasty substances produced by environmental pollutants like car fumes and preservatives that can make you susceptible to cancer, heart disease and premature ageing). The more antioxidants you consume, the slower you’ll age, inside and out. Yikes, pass me the rainbow salad!

Here’s a list of foods that are high in antioxidants to help fight those naughty free radicals and make you sparkle from within (and the good news is that these foods are all pretty yummy so it’s easy to increase your intake of them):

  • Vitamin A – apricots, sweet potatoes, watermelon, chilli pepper, lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes
  • Vitamin C – dark leafy vegetables (kale, broccoli), citrus fruit (fat juicy oranges, lemons and lines), peppers, tomatoes and berries, (think juicy strawberries, blackberries and blueberries)
  • Vitamin E – brown rice, lentils, nuts and seeds
  • Beta Carotene – red and yellow peppers, carrots, mango and broccoli

Selenium – fish, shellfish, red meat, chicken, brazil nuts, onions, brown rice

So stock up chicks, and before long you’ll be sparkling from within. Why not try for 28 days and see how you feel.

Let us know, we love to hear from you.

Love Carol and Tina
