My peri-menopause update

Hi chicks, It’s time for an update on my menopause journey. Let’s start with the symptoms that I’ve been experiencing lately…well, if I could remember, that would be a good start!

Wearing Zara capeWhat’s happened to my memory? It’s shocking, I’m finding it really annoying and embarrassing that I’m unable to recall even the simplest of words…argh! And I’m having the most trouble with the names of people and places. Is anyone else experiencing this?

If so, take a deep breath and don’t worry. I’ve been reading all about this (and have written it down so I don’t forget it!). Short term memory loss in peri-menopause is normal. Phew! Love the short term part – apparently one of the main causes of our becoming a tad forgetful is our low-functioning thyroid, putting our hormones out of balance.

So the answer, it seems, is to find a way to naturally rebalance our hormones. There’s no quick fix for this, but I think there are some things we can do that will make a bit of a difference.

I’m going to start looking after our matey thyroid by upping my intake of foods with iodine, zinc, omega 3, and selenium.  There are loads of foods that contain these goodies, but my favourites include broccoli, spinach, eggs, chia seeds, cod, baked potatoes, salmon and brazil nuts. Delicious!
